Tips for reducing stress

With Stress Awareness Day approaching on the 2nd November, we at Luminous Face Yoga are thinking a lot about stress at the moment. Shockingly, yet not surprisingly, of the tens of thousands of you who have taken our face habits quiz, over 80% of you feel stressed very often. Unfortunately, in this modern and fast-paced age, we are exposed to more stress than ever. Developments in technology make it harder for us to switch off from our work and social pressures, our attempts to have successful careers as well as very ‘present’ parents, the financial climate, and depressing world affairs can all weigh very heavily on us. The effects of Cortisol (the stress hormone) can have so many damaging effects on the body and mind, and we know that a myriad of health problems can be caused or exacerbated by stress, including heart attacks, digestive issues, migraines and mental health problems. Our faces also tend to suffer when we are stressed; our muscles carry tension, making us look pinched and leading us to over express which causes wrinkles. The lack of sleep we often experience when stressed leads us to look pale and sallow. Learning (and practicing) techniques to lower your stress levels will do wonders for the health of your body and mind. Here are a few of our favourite ways to reduce stress that have both instant effects, and long term benefits when practised regularly:
  • Breathing techniques such as square breathing (breath in for 4, hold for 4, out for 4, hold for 4)
  • Getting out in nature – do not underestimate this!
  • Hugs – science tells us that physical contact lowers cortisol levels, so get hugging your loved ones!
  • Face Yoga – There are so many reasons to practise face yoga, and reducing stress and tension is a key one. Our members tell us they feel immediately less stressed after a session.
All Luminous Face Yoga routines will reduce stress, but we even have a specially designed programme that focuses purely on reducing your stress levels, as well as a Relaxation Hub with so many tutorials and techniques to keep you stress free. To mark Stress Awareness Day, we are offering 30% off all membership plans from now until 4th November. Don’t go into the busy festive period feeling stressed out…tackle it now and get your mind, body and face ready to enjoy the holiday season! Use the code STRESSLESS
